Well, we managed to do it, with the gracious loan of Melissa's recording pack and a LOT of help from the awesome A/V support gods at the Park Plaza. (Although we'd have probably done a lot better had I asked about recording it *last night* instead of pulling in to Park Street on the T, and realized that since Aaron had no computer, we had nothing to record with. I left my laptop because I had so much other stuff to carry. Oops! Ah, well, it worked out.)

It was very sparsely attended, but we figured that would be the case. ;^D

And I only made about 1700 mistakes while reading, but hey. Considering I didn't realize until MIDNIGHT LAST NIGHT that I was actually going to be reading the fic again -- and that we weren't listening to the old podcast version and talking about it -- I think I did okay.

SEVENTEEN voices in that fic. Including EIGHT WEASLEYS.

Madre de Dios.

But I have handed out a number of shirts (some to people who aren't going to Azkatraz but promised to wear them...) and a bunch of keychains and buttons.

I'm at work currently and will head back to the hotel at the end of the day. Unfortunately the Crocs that I bought in Orlando, supposed to be (used to be!) soooo comfortable... well, they're rubbing blisters. Ouchy.

Man, I have had so much to do in the last week, I haven't had the slightest bit of time to journal about it.

Car update: Flat tire was a nail, but it was warrantied, so no cost! The body work will come in at $850. Called the woman and told her both estimates. Predictably, because the total is over $1,200, and she still hasn't got her own car fixed, she now thinks she might have to put in a claim through her insurance. Le Sigh. I really want a check. I want it so that I can apply it to the replacement for the car. Not that I don't love my Ashley! But a car that doesn't drive places reliably is just not really much good.

The reality check of the car made me reconsider reconsidering going to EyeCon. Also, no Gulf Wars this year, even if I could do it financially - schedule precludes, as it conflicts with Sound of Music.

Okay, so last night I beta'd a chapter, packed, presided over a board meeting, and *then* recorded, edited, and uploaded a 20-page fic with 10+ voices...until 2:00 AM. Took about an hour to get to sleep because of all the psyching myself up to stay awake. Alarm went off at 6, I arose at 6:30. Arrived at work at 8, worked pretty much non-stop until 4:30, at which point I hightailed it (as fast as the MBTA would take me) to the airport, got on my plane, and flew here. Thought I would sleep on the plane, but instead I typed in the longhand of chapter 11 I'd written yesterday and today, and then kept typing until they made me turn off the computer, which was only seconds after I killed a major Victim-of-the-Week, yay, go me.

Retrieved bags, waited for [livejournal.com profile] grouchyoldcoot, who picked me up and drove us through torrential rain to Max and Erma's, which was closed, so we went to the Sharp Edge, had deep fried cheese and then a yummy salad, drove home, admired the progress on his kitchen, helped insert the dishwasher hose into the freshly drilled hole that Joel drilled while I was watching him do it, unpacked the suitcase FULL of his Christmas presents (both his, as in for him from me, and his as in, from him for others) that he couldn't get into his luggage while he was visiting me, and now, we're catching up on email. It's 1:15 AM! I've been up for many hours, with only about 3 1/2 hours of sleep to have started me off.

:Iz ded. Okay. Girl Genius and then brush teeth and then CRASH.

For our special Deathly Hallows episode, SpellCast wants to collect as many fan reviews as we can to be played throughout the show. Mods of all kinds, we really need your contributions to get things going!

What we need:
- A one-to-three minute recording of your thoughts on the book. Make sure to include your handle at the beginning!

How to do it:
Option 1 - Using Skype, call username "fictionalley" and leave a voicemail.
Option 2 - Record a .mp3 file on your computer and email it to spellcast@fictional ley.org, with the subject "DH Review". (If you're not sure how to do that, email us and ask!)

Please send them in by Friday, July 28. One caveat: We'll be treating the epilogue in a separate discussion, so please leave it out of your review. If you know anyone who might like to contribute, please pass this along to them.

NOTE: You don't have to participate at FictionAlley or even in the HP Fandom (online or elsewhere) to call SpellCast and record your review! It'll only take a minute; take a break from Pennsic packing and call in!

Thanks, everyone.

Did you go to an Order of the Phoenix release party? Had you been to one for Goblet of Fire? Did you go to one for Half-Blood Prince?

I'm seeking fans who attended at least an OoP party to participate in a roundtable about the release of the 5th book (and possibly compare it to previous and subsequent releases). Whether or not you were an active fan at the time doesn't matter - in fact, it'll be cool to have some of both.

If you're interested in participating, please comment before March 27th so that we can set up a recording date in early April.

Last Chance:

It's that time of year again, and SpellCast is looking for voice actors for our holiday radio play! In our last round, we had both first-timers and professional voice actors participate, so no previous experience is required.

Cast

Tonks
McGonagall
Ginny
Hermione
Harry
Ron

If you're interested in auditioning, you have two options.

1.) You can record your audition piece in a .mp3 and email it to [email protected]. This is going to be our recommended method for auditions to ensure the best possible quality and clarity. (Since you will also need to be able to record your part for the play if cast, you will need to know how to record your own voice and format it in a .mp3)

2.) Your other option is to call the FictionAlley voicemail line. From Skype you can contact the username 'FictionAlley', or phone 303-800-4342 in the US and +44 0161 408 3427 in the UK. Please reduce all background noise as much as possible for your audition. If you choose this method, it is imperative that you clearly spell your email address and FA username (if you have one).

When auditioning, you have a choice of reading one or both of the paragraphs below. (If you have the ability to do multiple accents, pick the one or two you feel would be best for the part, but make note of your other abilities.)

Option 1

"How do those hats work, then?" said Hermione, distracted from her homework and watching Fred and George closely. "I mean, obviously it's some kind of invisibility spell, but it's rather clever to have extended the field of the spell beyond the boundaries of the charmed object… I'd imagine the charm wouldn't have a very long life, though…" – Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Chapter Twenty-Four, Occlumency.

Option 2

"Listen to me, Harry," he said urgently, "you must study Occlumency as hard as you can, do you understand me? Do everything Professor Snape tells you and practice it particularly every night before sleeping so that you can close your mind to bad dreams – you will understand why soon enough, but you must promise me –"

– Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Chapter Twenty-Seven, The Centaur and the Sneak.

Auditions are due no later than Wednesday, December 6th at 12:00 PST. The cast will be announced no later than Saturday, December 9th, and your recordings will need to be submitted no later than Saturday, December 16th at 12:00 PST. If you do not have time, please do not commit to this project.

Just remember to have fun – SpellCast is excited to have you involved!
